Tokyo Halloween works when you choose the event before you choose the neighborhood. A family costume contest, a cosplay festival, a Disney park day, and an overnight art walk each leave a different memory. Puroland’s adults-only overnight party is sold out with no door tickets as of October 7; it is not a fifth booking option.

Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival: the city-scale cosplay choice

Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival 2026 is scheduled for Friday, October 30 through Sunday, November 1 in the Ikebukuro area. The official program separates the formats: the Friday-night event is planned for 4:30 pm–10:30 pm at Sunshine City, is for people aged 18 and over, and excludes high-school students. The main daytime festival is scheduled for Saturday, October 31 and Sunday, November 1 from 10:00 am–6:00 pm.

Choose Ikebukuro when cosplay, photography, and being among people who came for the same culture are the point of the day. It is the clearest match for an anime- or manga-focused trip and the least useful choice for someone who only wants a casual night in costume without a planned event format.

Ticket update, September 21, 2026: advance sales have opened. First choose cosplayer or photographer registration, then your date and admission type. Standard daytime advance tickets are ¥2,980 per day with reception from 11:00 am; premium tickets are ¥3,980 per day with reception from 8:45 am. These are different from the Friday-night ticket. Cosplayer registration includes access to changing rooms and luggage storage. The official page warns that sold-out categories will not have same-day tickets; check your selected date before buying.

Coming in costume? Choose cosplay registration for your day. The overseas General Cosplay ticket includes changing-room and luggage-storage access. The English purchase screen lists ¥2,980 plus a service fee, QR-ticket pickup, and credit card, Alipay or WeChat Pay payment. Purchases cannot be changed or cancelled; check your date and registration category before paying. These conditions were checked for the October 31 and November 1 General Cosplay options on September 22, 2026; availability can change.

Pack the costume; change at the event. The official English participation rules require cosplayers to check in, use the venue changing rooms, and change back before leaving. Do not arrive already dressed in cosplay from your hotel. If you will both cosplay and take photos, choose cosplay registration rather than buying a separate photographer registration. Ask permission before photographing a cosplayer and before posting their photo. Rules checked September 22, 2026.

Once the festival time is fixed, keep the meal on the same side of the station. The Ikebukuro restaurant guide separates east-side Sunshine choices, west-side dining, a famous ramen queue and black-curry comfort. Change back before leaving the festival for dinner; the event map determines which participating places allow cosplay.

Disney Halloween: the planned theme-park day

Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea will hold Disney Halloween from September 16 through October 31, 2026. This is the best option when a full theme-park day is the plan: tickets, parades, food, and the Halloween atmosphere all belong to the same controlled setting.

Costumes need more care here than a Halloween-themed outfit. The resort says that full Disney-character costumes are allowed from September 15–30 and October 16–31, while guests are asked not to visit in full costume from October 1–15. The resort also says that changing and makeup should not be done in park or public-facility restrooms and lockers. Check the current costume guidance before choosing a date or packing a full outfit.

Choose Disney for families, travelers with a fixed park day, or fans who want the Halloween theme without needing to navigate a public-street event. It is not the right replacement for Ikebukuro if the purpose is cosplay photography with a city-wide community.

Arrive ready for your costume day. Neither park provides a changing room. Dress at your accommodation, or reserve the separate paid space at Ikspiari, Cinema Area 1F, Garden Site.

  • Dates: September 15–30 and October 16–31. Check availability for your visit; operating dates do not guarantee a vacant booth.
  • Cost: ¥1,100 without a power outlet or ¥1,300 with one per 30-minute reservation, including 25 minutes of booth use. Park admission is separate.
  • Book and bring: Japanese-only reservation site, MyDisney account and advance credit-card payment required. Bring your confirmation code and that day’s park ticket.

Make it a Disney day: choose your park and date

SPOOKY PUMPKIN at Sanrio Puroland: an adults-only night

SPOOKY PUMPKIN 2026 ~PURO ALL NIGHT HALLOWEEN PARTY~ is scheduled for Saturday, October 31. The official page lists doors at 9:30 pm, a 10:00 pm start, and a 5:00 am close. Entry is strictly limited to people aged 20 or over, with photo ID checked from 9:00 pm. This is a nighttime music event, not the normal character-park visit.

Sold-out check, October 7, 2026: the official event page says tickets are sold out and there will be no door tickets. The October 3 general sale has passed. The published advance price was ¥13,800; the listed ¥14,800 door price is not an available buying route. A daytime park passport will not admit you to this overnight event.

Already have a ticket? An original passport is accepted for the age check. Bring photo ID, follow the ticket’s entry instructions, and note that the official page prohibits re-entry. The Lawson lottery’s Japanese-mobile verification requirement described the earlier application route; it is not a way to obtain a ticket now.

If you already hold a ticket and are 20 or older, this is the curated all-night party. If you still need an October 31 plan, choose one of the other event formats above rather than treating a standard Hello Kitty or family day as a substitute ticket.

The ticket is part of the memory, not a generic gate pass. A regular daytime Puroland passport does not include this overnight event, so do not buy one as a substitute.

Roppongi Art Night: a grown-up Tokyo night with a different center

Roppongi Art Night 2026 is scheduled from 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 31 to 6:00 am on Sunday, November 1. The official program announces more than 60 art programs across Roppongi, with the Mori Art Museum and Tokyo City View planned to remain open all night. This is not a Halloween party, and it should not be described as one. It is a city-scale art night that happens to give an October 31 evening a strong, adult alternative to a public-street crowd.

Choose Roppongi when the night should begin with art, installations, and a city that changes after dark, then continue to dinner, bars, or clubs only if you want the night to keep moving. That structure is the difference: the art is a real first stop, not decoration around a club plan. It suits travelers who want something more intentional than news-camera crowds, without making the evening family- or cosplay-centered.

The natural next step is Roppongi nightlife, where a hosted pub crawl and club finish are one available format. Keep the two parts separate in your plan: check the live Art Night program and venue hours first, then choose a bar or club route that begins after the art event you actually want to see.

What not to expect in Shibuya

A family afternoon on October 17

Shibuya has an organized, child-focused alternative to the street-party image. The Shibuya Station East Exit shopping association lists its 2026 Halloween contest for October 17, 1–6 pm, at Inaribashi Square in front of Shibuya Stream, with a children’s costume contest and stalls. Check the organizer’s program and contest-entry rules before planning to participate. This is not a citywide street party or a confirmation of October 31 traffic arrangements. Details checked September 21, 2026.

October 31: traffic measures are announced, not a street-party program

A year-round rule already applies: drinking alcohol in streets, parks and other public places within Shibuya Station’s designated area is prohibited from 6 pm to 5 am. Check the city’s official area map and English information. This is separate from temporary Halloween traffic controls, not a ban on visiting Shibuya or drinking inside its bars. Official guidance checked September 22, 2026; specific city-authorized event exemptions may apply.

The 2026 measures are now published. Shibuya City described its Halloween manners campaign at a September 30 press conference, asking visitors to avoid street drinking, smoking, littering and blocking pedestrian traffic and to enjoy events inside local venues. Shibuya Police then announced traffic measures for the area around Shibuya Station from the evening of October 30 to the early morning of November 1. The police notice identifies vehicle-closure areas on its map, says additional checks or restrictions may be used depending on conditions, and warns of overnight crowding. It does not announce a bookable street party.

If you are crossing Shibuya that weekend, use the police’s 2026 map and notice for your route rather than copying a 2025 restriction map. Shibuya City’s campaign and the police’s traffic plan are visitor guidance, not confirmation of a city-supported October 31 street celebration.

If Shibuya is on your trip, visit it for its Crossing, fashion and music streets, food, and booked nightlife on an ordinary date. Use the Shibuya guide for that plan. For October 31, choose one of the official formats above rather than relying on an old viral image of the street. For an adult late-night plan with a defined cultural first stop, Roppongi Art Night is the clearer choice.

Before you book or pack a costume

  1. Choose the format first. Cosplay festival, Disney day, all-night music party, and art-into-nightlife are different trips.
  2. Match the age rule to the actual ticket. Ikebukuro Friday night is 18+; SPOOKY PUMPKIN is 20+ with photo ID.
  3. Separate entry eligibility from ticket access. An original passport satisfies the published SPOOKY PUMPKIN ID rule, but the event is sold out with no door tickets as of October 7.
  4. Read costume guidance on the current official page. Disney has specific full-costume periods and changing restrictions.
  5. Use Roppongi Art Night as an art itinerary, not a Halloween club ticket. Check the live program and venue hours before choosing the next bar.
  6. Do not use an old Shibuya restriction map. The police have issued a 2026 traffic notice; recheck it shortly before crossing the area.
  7. Book official event tickets from the event’s live page. We only use a separate affiliate ticket when its product and eligibility genuinely match the visit.

Is Shibuya the best place for Halloween in Tokyo?

Not if you need a defined event to book. Shibuya City has announced a manners campaign and Shibuya Police have announced October 30–November 1 traffic measures, but neither notice makes the station streets a bookable Halloween event. Ikebukuro and Disney have specific event formats to check; Puroland’s overnight party is sold out as of October 7.

Which Tokyo Halloween event is best for families?

Disney is the clearest planned theme-park choice for families. Ikebukuro’s daytime cosplay festival may also suit families, but check its current participation categories and rules. SPOOKY PUMPKIN is 20+ only.

Is Roppongi Art Night a Halloween party?

No. It is an overnight art program on October 31, not a Halloween party. Choose it when art, architecture, and an optional later bar or club night better fit the evening you want.

Can I use a regular Sanrio Puroland admission ticket for SPOOKY PUMPKIN?

No. SPOOKY PUMPKIN is a separate adults-only overnight event with its own official ticketing and photo-ID requirement. A regular daytime Puroland passport is a different product.
